Camping in Speech: Mixed Group Activities for Speech and Language

Hi speechies!

Do you ever struggle when working with mixed groups? This camping activity is PERFECT for targeting multiple goals and for keeping your students engaged!

I'm all about going big when it comes to themes. I think back to my days in elementary school and I have vivid memories of the days when my teachers made our lessons fit into a relatable theme. Those lessons stand out to me and I remember them. I want to do the same with my therapy sessions, because I think students will be more invested in working toward their goals if they are engaged in the activities.

We have s'mores sequencing first. We practiced with felt s'mores and then made actual s'mores. The kids were so into it and so much language was elicited!

Next up:

The campfire narrative telling activity. I got this little 3D fire centerpiece from Amazon and we turned the lights out + turned on some flashlights. Then we took turns using the stick to pick up a card. The student would read the card and then the next student would have to continue the narrative. We went around the whole table, practicing beginning, middle, and end. It was a hit, and I loved hearing the students get creative!

If you want to go camping in speech, you can grab the activities here!

  1. I do consider all the concepts you have presented for your post. They're very convincing and will certainly work. Still, the posts are too quick for starters. May you please prolong them a little from next time? Thank you for the post. singapore influencers
